Some times it doesn't clear. When the SOBO come through in late June or
early July after a heavy winter it hasn't melted and the NOBO gets caught in
an early snow at the end of the season........there's not a lot of time
where the trail up here is perfect. Overgrowth and snow makes for
questioning every turn you take especially on the reroute. The Forest
Service can not afford to be spending money clearing both the original and
the reroute. The reroute was designed to be used until the original PCT was
passable. I can only pass on what each year's hikers through here tell me.
Maybe you lucked out that year. The ones who came a couple weeks later may
have had a different experience if there was a lot of new snow. Read the
past journals and do your own thing. You probably will not see any
other traffic on the reroute.
