  Greetings from Walk for Wildlands,

If you or anyone you know are planning a thru or section hike this year
this project offers a form to engage your family and community in the
experience and raise much needed funds for wilderness preservation along the
PCT and throughout the west. We have developed a structure enabling any
hiker to create his own fundraising thru-hike a-thon and raise money just by
hiking. This includes a website and blog, an online donation format,
traditional pledge donation, and form letters and emails that can be
directly sent out to friends, family, contacts, and the people and
businesses in your own community. The hiker needs only to decide she wants
to be a part of it, and then distribute the information and raise pledges as
much as she sees fit. The money goes directly to benefit grassroots
projects and organizations that are working to preserve the west. With
enough participation from the hiker community this can develop into a very
powerful means of supporting conservation and raising awareness and interest
in protecting trails and U.S. wild lands. Organizations and areas that have
already benefited from this project include the PCTA's land acquisition
fund, The Pacific Forest Trust's Cascade-Siskiyou land acquisition fund, and
Cascadia Ecosystem Advocates. Please feel free to check out the project
website at www.walkforwild.org and blog at http://walkforwild.blogspot.com,
email walkforwild at gmail.com with any further questions that you may have,
and pass this along to anyone that you feel may be interested in
participating.

  Thank You,
