"Ordinary chlorine bleach will kill bacteria, but often won't kill
Giardia or Crypto unless you use a lot of bleach, let it sit a long
time, and the water is clear and warm"
Beware Bever Fever! Before you close Water Treatment as a topic, Albert,
and to add to Brick's above giardia advisory, I've heard working Forest
Circus bio's report that giardia is often present in flowing waters,
including springs at their source, at all elevations. The giardia is
transmitted via rodent and other animal fecal droppings, ergo the original
mountain man name for this ailment: beaver fever. Point being, even a
remote, alpine, seemingly pristine source can be contaminated with giardia
spore.
Merry Christmas to all!
