Dear Whitnee
I have not enough knowledge about the American tent maker. But, at
least I know, the SilNylon used by Tarptent(may be many American
tent maker ) is not enough strength against strong rain.
I have used Hilleberg Akto for about 5 years. This is very strong for
wind and rain. Nowadays, this tent is heavy ( 1.4 Kg for one person )
and expensive( $420 ). In Japan, this tent is more and more
expensive, then I switched to other maker.
I have bought and tested Vaude Power Lizard UL. (1.0Kg for 1.5 person,
$339). This tent is also very strong for wind and rain. The tent body
is siliconised 20D fabric(3000mm waterproof) and tent flour is 40
laminated fabric (10000mm waterproof ).
I have uploaded some photos and comments at my site:

I just got $300 to buy my shelter and STILL cannot decide! Hennessy Hammock? Wild Oasis? MLD Solo Mid with netting? Z-Pack's solo hexamid system? Tarptent? I just don't know. Someone please tell me what you used and what you though about it... Thank you!!
