Dead end trail heads in general are the best place to catch a ride. I have hitched at both several times. Usually catch a ride as quick as I can holdup my "To Town" sign. I like Onion Valley better for resupply. Works out strategically better for me, plus the hike over Kearsarge Pass is mild. Over the pass hitch to town resupply. Hitch back and back on the trail all in one day if you plan it right. Then off to VVR or Mammoth for my next resupply. Usually I buy a couple of meals off the shelf, just enough to get to Tuolumne.
