Also remember, when you leave the desert you will be trading water weight
for the weight of a bear canister, ice axe, crampons, and cold weather
clothing.

I'd say the desert sections end at Kennedy Meadows but if your concern is
sweating, I'm not sure that helps. Northern California can be quite hot
during thru-hiker season, for example.
