If Yosemite would work for you, Amtrak can get you to Merced, and then the YARTS bus to several places in Yosemite (valley, Tuolumne Meadows).

  I am looking for transportation ideas from Oakland, CA to the closest PCT trail head.  I was hoping to find a local bus/charter bus but have only found buses that service the Tahoe area during the skiing season.
