Hello from a longtime list lurker.
We're now celebrating 10 fine years of nasty diners and sketchy
motels along the PCT. The annual update of Best On The Crest, the
definitive guide to restaurants and lodging in towns along the PCT --
http://www.emeraldlake.com/pctguide/ -- is complete. Not a major
update. Dead links corrected. Restaurant hours tweaked. Several harsh
assessments mellowed with the passing of years.
Some highlights to note: The hiker hostel in Cascade Locks in the
venerable Salmon Row Pub is still on indefinite hold. Hyatt Lake is
running full bore with fancy cabins and a killer pizza joint, despite
ongoing legal action to shut the operation down. Warner Springs Ranch
sold to an Indian tribe, with no major changes announced.
Independence finally gets a restaurant that is not a Subway sandwich
shop in a gas station or a frou-frou French Colonial bistro. Beefed
up restaurant listings for Mammoth Lakes. Belden Town Resort MAY be
cleaned up and offering cabins. The Cascadia in Skykomish (hotel and
main eatery and bar) MAY close down for the summer season due to the
railroad's continued excavation of downtown Sky.
That's all the news that's fit to print.
As always, send additions, corrections and general bellyaching to
feedback at emeraldlake.com
My very best wishes to the Class of 2010.
