We had occasion to drive highway 36 on the way to Chico yesterday and passed the trail crossing near Chester.  The parking area at the trail was partially melted but the south side where the stairs are carved into the embankment was totally covered with a couple of feet - at least - of snow.  The forest floor was totally covered with probably a foot, it was hard to tell without getting out to measure.  We've had a lot of freezing nights and very cold days so the snow is not melting - yet.
