Agreed there's not much in Onyx, mostly meth users buying beer at 8 am to come down from their highs (I saw this). A free kern regional transit bus gets you into lake isabella which has a von's and etc. Gazoogle for the sched. The section to KM isn't too tough, you can probably just do a long carry from tehachapi pass if you want.
