[pct-l] Day Hikes and small trips around the area

Hi, I am a single woman who just moved here from Lewiston, ME three Mondays ago, and am living with my
cousins now in CAMINO, CA. This is near many trailheads to the PCT and the El Dorado National Forest. I am
here because I am establishing residency so that I might be able to go
to Humboldt State University for a cheaper price instead of the out-of-state fee (around $30,000).
So, I am basically hanging out for a year, gathering funds and
knowledge. My Austrian dad and I would go hiking almost every weekend
before I left, and I loved that so much. I am not at the point where I
can go off on my own, in other words, I have so much more that I can
learn and benefit from. But I am dying here, because my cousins are not
very active in that area. I need to get out and go into the wilderness.
Before I left my dad told me to search out the Pacific Crest Trail Club, because there was an Appalachian Trail Club on the East (the AMC) and he remembered there was an group specifically
for the Pacific Trail. And, at least on the East Coast, if you are
involved in that club, you are able to go on joint hikes, and such, and
that would be great for me, because then I wouldn't have to worry about
being alone and would learn the whole time. I am eighteen, and I just
got a job at an apple orchard, so I am starting to get busy, but I am still desperate to get out. I like photography, so I will
probrably be bringing my awesome point and shoot camera with me for potential photos. The
only way I can excercize is by walking on the roads around
here because there isn't really a good terrain to train - well there are bike trails
but they are flat, and besides, there are a ton of creepy people there that I wouldn't want to surround myself with in case a situation were to arise. And
because of me just walking on the hilly roads, I have gotten, kinda out
of shape, since Maine... :[ so keep that in mind, but I
like to go a good pace, and not stop all the time. So that way you
don't tire the crud out of your body. I am a single woman, and would like to be with other single women, but if on the occasion I do happen to go with men, I would like at least one other woman there with me. Just in case, you know? I would like to no not have to travel too far for a hike, since there are tons of them right here in front of me, so no more than an hour or and hour and a half. I would like day hikes, or maybe weekend trips, the most I would do is a week or to, but that requires substantial training before a trek like that. I am here to meet new friends, and also enjoy my new life here and nature. Is there anyone out there with the same interests who would like to help me out?

thanx
biz

I'm with you Ellen,
Some years ago, hiking the Apache Point Trail in the Grand Canyon, a
waterless & shadeless three day hike in 100
degree heat, I was hauling 12 liters.
Yes, water most definitely was the heaviest thing in my pack.

Well, I'm of to Catalina Island to enjoy the cool ocean breezes while
Switchback is sweating in Las Vegas.
I will be thinking of you all while slurping "Margaritas" and watching
bikini clad surfer babes stroll by.
I believe Ellen recommends a minimum of one liter of liquids per
hour....lets see now....1 x 24 = 24.
Boy, that will be a lot of "Margaritas".
Hhhmmm......I wonder how Margaritas, in place of water, would work when
hiking in the desert?
Just wondering,......that's all.

JMT Reinhold
