My misunderstanding on the ice screws. However, Myself I like being prepared when the conditions are icy I still like having crampons. I've tried some of the other gadgets out there and found some that work OK and other that don't work at all. I still carried the crampons for stepper icy terrain . I always bring an ice ax. self arresting quickly is of utmost importance and the longer it takes you to arrest. The chances get slimmer that arresting will occur . I've seen this first hand on Mount Bake in Washington  when a person couldn't arrest with an ice ax. I'm saying for me in icy terrain I'll carry the weight to be safe.  Espeially when I'm by myself.Craig Connally explains and demonstrates how to arrest with trekking poles. I plan on test this out this year to see how it work and I plan on doing this in an icy area. After I do the test I'll post my results.
