Supertramp,
First of all, you've chosen a very prophetic nickname as the most famous one died of starvation in the Alaskan wilderness in 1992.
The high Sierra is one of the most unforgiving environments in the world, especially in winter. Not only is the spine of the range that the PCT follows very remote, the winters can be deadly with blizzards delivering several feet of heavy 'Sierra cement" in one storm.
Do yourself a favor, hike the JMT in the summertime and envision the terrain in a blizzard with subfreezing temperatures and total whiteout conditions at elevation. You may want to rethink your plans.
