You must have met me, then! I wouldn't say I gave up on filtering/
treating completely. I always put Aquamira in water obtained from
lakes or large streams, but small creeks and springs I just drank it.
I used the paint strainer trick, too.
I met a couple last year who used a steripen. They never gave up on
it as far as I know but they did have a lot of trouble with it and
had to replace it at least once. Aquamira or similar seems simplest
to use.
