Excellent advise from Mr. Freed!

"The main thing is to know yourself and your gear and how to best use each
in the
worst of conditions."

I would like to add, if you expect foul weather and don't want to get wet
and cold, bring a 3-season tent that you can set up in blowing rain!

I have yet to do a long distance hike that does not include some rain, snow,
or wind.
Sometimes all three and at hurricane force. Nothing like trying to setup a
tarp in a
50mph wind. Burrito Boy should have been my trail name. :)

the
worst of conditions.
