My understanding is that Montrail was purchased by Columbia and the subsequent 2008/2009 versions of the Hardrock were significantly different than the earlier Montrail versions. Reviews that I found on the web indicate that folks who loved the earlier version hated the newer version.

My point is that even when you find a shoe that works for your feet you have to be aware that the same model can change radically from one year to the next.
