I can't speak for Skurka's guided trip, but I will say that the Roper route is not for yuppies. It's almost entirely cross country above timberline. While I do find it rather ambitious to knock it off in one long trip, it's best to enjoy the route in 7 to 10 day long segments. Once you're up that high it's easy to bag some peaks along the way. Every time I take on another Roper segment I find more things I want to do and see when I'm looking down from the Sierra crest. There's nothing like cross country traversing in the High Sierra. Not to be missed!

Pick up a copy of Roper's book: The Sierra High Route: Traversing Timberline Country

Or actually I prefer Secor's book: The High Sierra: Peaks, Passes, and Trails

Although I've admittedly backed down from some of Secor's class 3 routes.
