[pct-l] Check Cashing

Sorry, I should have clarified. I realize a debit card is the way to go, and is what I WILL be using. I don't ask because I want to write a check myself and have it cashed. I ask because I have a friend that is willing to send me money (if need be) after I'm on the trail, but doesn't feel comfortable sending cash through the mail.

Hi Jeff -

I don't know of any check cashing services, but would guess that if you have checks, then you have a debit card.  If so, then any Post Office will give you cash - I believe up to $50, if you make a minimal purchase.  Also, large supermarkets [Safeway's, etc.] will give you cash if you make a purchase there with a debit card.
