Another consideration for your dog in section A--
Heat at the ground level is considerably higher than at your face level. 
  My short-haired dog suffered terribly from the heat in the section C 
stretch from North Fork Ranger Station to Soledad canyon, where the temp 
in the shade was approaching 100 degrees.  Also,
TICKS are very prevalent in the chaparral areas of southern California 
so be prepared to check your dogs every night for about a week after you 
return.  You may be removing upwards of a hundred ticks per dog.
