Here is a useful tool for estimating where it may be snowing, from the
backpacker45.com website.
"If you carry a thermometer, it is sometimes useful to estimate expected
temperatures at higher elevations. There is a normal temperature drop of
3.6° F for each 1000 feet increase in elevation. i.e. if you are at 10,000
feet, the temperature is 40° F and it is raining, expect snow at 13,000
feet."
