 Hi there,
When I got hurt in Nov. 07 it was in Porkera, Nepal, I got hit from behind
on a trail by a small school bus.
Medicare does not pay out of the country and my supplement paid a little.
When I got brought back to the USA in Dec. of 07 I owed my eldest son
$27,000. I had not taken out any type of insurance on this trip and was not
in the habit of taking out insurance on any of my trips, my attitude was
that I had never needed it before so why start now. My daughter flew over
to help me out and we just charged everything to his American Express card.
The majority was for airplane travel and I needed 4 - 6 seats for my
stretcher and on the return I had to have a Doc. and a nurse to accompany
me. My daughter had flown home the week prior. Luckily I had the money to
pay him back (I had just sold my house). So everything worked out.

If I ever have the opportunity to travel again, U Bet I would take out the
insurance. Incidentally we were to start our trek on the "Sanctuary" in the
Annapurna's this was one area that I had not visited in my many trips to
Nepal.Incidentally in a poor country like Nepal there is no recourse to go
after the driver or the owner of the school bus.
Cheers,

Marge (the old gal)
