[pct-l] who pays for SAR

In Oregon the law says that the max that can be charged to any one  
person is $500 dollars. And that is under very specific  
circumstances, No maps, no training, illegal activities, (people  
being excessively stupid) you get the idea.  That said for basic  
"lost in the woods, broke my leg, whatever" types or rescues we never  
charge. The only time I know we have billed is auto insurance  
companies for recovery of stolen vehicles out of rivers. I have been  
a SAR volunteer for over 13 years and if you want to help, check with  
your local Sheriffs department, either to give donations or  
volunteer. Most SAR teams are 99% volunteer.
