[pct-l] Night Hiking Light Trick

Yeah, a lot of hikers probably know about holding or attaching the light low
to make shadows and have some contrast. I remember reading about this also
in Ray Jardine's book about the PCT. This is a good tip for the Hat Creek
Rim especially, for as Firefly likes to warn NOBOs, the rocks are the same
color as the dirt. You'll find this is also true in the Lava Land of
Oregon (except for the stretches where they carted in red lava for trail
cover). Happy Trails!

Subject: [pct-l] Night Hiking Light Trick

Hey, Y'all!
I am up here night hiking on the Hat Creek Rim mile1395 of the PCT.
I just discovered something about headlamps. I was stumbling along because
the brown rocks stuck in the brown trail cast no shadows while the headlamp
was above my eyes(forehead).
I wrapped the lamp(Petzl Zipka) around my neck instead tucking it upside
down between my Adam's apple (Hyoid Bone) and jaw. The result is just enough
of a shadow is cast behind the "trip" rocks in to trail so I don't die.
Maybe Y'all knew about this but it's new to me.
Anyhow I got a few more hours to go before I allow myself to drop.
Cheers-Iceaxe
