shoes for crossing JMT streams
...

This question comes up all the time. It's laughable that anyone would
bother changing shoes. If you're hiking during regular thru-hiking
season, the entire trail is a stream. The snow is wet, too. You'll
spend most of your time trying to figure out a way around the wet
trail but your feet will still be wet all day. I suppose you could
hike all day in Crocs but what difference would that make?

I have found, having hiked this wet trail two summers in a row now,
that once I get to the Sierras and experience nearly permanently wet
feet my feet toughen up the best they ever get and finally I am free
of blisters for the rest of the trail. It's the best my feet get,
actually. And the constant walking in water actually keeps my feet
cleanest they ever get.

So get 'em wet and don't worry about it. It's the cure for blisters,
not the cause.

Diane/Piper
