The short answer is to carry one from Kennedy Meadows to Echo Lake
(South Lake Tahoe).

You can get by with something less than this
if you resupply at Lone Pine (in the south) or Sonora Pass (in
the north) and/or camp at bear lockers and dodge rangers in the
middle.
