The bus is the KERN Regional Transit bus - the route is the East Kern Express.

http://www.co.kern.ca.us/roads/pdf/East_Kern_Express.pdf

It runs 8 buses per day from Bakersfield to Mojave, and 6 from Mojave to Bakersfield. Also stops in Tehachapi. You can take it straight to either the Greyhgound or Amtrak stations in Bakersfield.

Day's Inn. It's mentioned in the list here -

  http://www.pcta.org//planning/during_trip/services.asp

and also in the Yogi book.

The people who provide the rides are not always around, you might call
and find that the case as I did. So maybe call ahead if you can and
see what the deal is. Also, the Day's Inn is notably more expensive
than some other options, but might be worth it just for the ride.

The hitch on Oak Creek Road is the one I'm least looking forward to.
Most traffic seemed to be big trucks going to a crushed rock plant (or
something like that) a few miles down the road.
