There is a cemetery outside Ashland?

Sometime in either 1972 or 3 my thru partner and I were hiking between
Castle Crags and Crater Lake. We had numerous difficulties along the way
including the flu, deer, bears, bad drivers, dangerous pool halls, and
logging trucks, but the highlight of them all was our visit to Ashland.

Something had gone wrong with our gear and we had to find a town. We hitched
off the trail toward Klamath Falls, having heard that our rescue would be in
that direction. Wrong. So we hitched late in the day back toward Ashland.
Going was tough and we ended up walking into town in the dark along the
two-lane highway.

Tired at that point, we spied a flat field coming up on our right and
decided to camp in it, or on it, in this case. We cowboy camped in the
middle of it and quickly fell asleep.

The "field" was actually a very large lawn. Nice to sleep on. When I awoke
the next morning, I noticed that there were "holes" in the grass all over
the place, nice rectangular holes, to be exact. Upon closer inspection with
groggy eyes, I found them to be grave markers!
