Why not leave it in the Curry Village parking lot? There's certainly plenty of people around which would discourage thieves. And it's a very short walk to Happy Isles.

Friends have also parked cars at Whitney Portal for several weeks with no issues, as well. Hikers start for Whitney at all hours of the day or night, so that lot is hardly ever deserted.

And September is absolutely the best month to be in the Sierras!
