Actually my concern is not pretend. Part of what I do is sell knives for
a living. I have had several customers want to buy the knife that Bear
uses. When I tell them that the show is make believe they jump to
Man vs Wild's defense informing me how Bear is a decorated war hero
teaching survival to the masses.

But you're right, we know it's like Hulk Hogan vs Andre the Giant.

People-- come on, lets be serious... what Bear is doing is not meant to be practical survival advice.  If thats what you want, watch Survivorman.  I would think that any of us that have been in the outdoors even in passing would realize that you're not supposed to be emulating those moves.  I mean, rappelling down a waterfall with a rope made out of vines?  Seriously, you are contemplating that?  Spare me your faux-outrage...

Now I see him jumping off a waterfall into a unknown pool.
Someone is going to get killed if they use this show as a survival guide.

My biggest gripe is that he builds a raft in the sierra and floats down the
river. Wonder if he has ever heard of the water falls up there. I know of a
few places where the water flow changes quickly from a gentle, slow river to
cascading down the side of a mountain.

So two or three times now I have watched
this guy use caves and tunnels to survive.
I mean I don't think I've ever seen a more
stupid thing than him following some water
flow through a ice tunnel in a glacier to get
to the bottom of a ice face. Or entering a
random lava tube to end up who knows
were in Greenland. I know that tops my list
of survival techniques. When in trouble
head underground, especially if it is a one
way trip. Or even better yet, when he does
these near impossible down climbs. What
happens when the next down climb is even
harder and you can't make it back up the
last one?

I guess it makes for good TV.
