Ally asked: "As far as electronic journaling goes, how are ya'll keeping all
these gadgets charged? At town stops? With spare batteries sent in resupply
boxes?
I was thinking of bringing a solar charger for my Verizon Blackberry and
camera but it's heavy and it sounds like it might be unnecessary."

I carried a Solio charger for my smartphone last year, tied it on to the top
of the pack. I found it worth while in California, particularly SoCal, not
so much in Oregon and Washington.
One option (or in my case, part of the overall solution) is to charge
whereever you're able to from wall current, whether that be in a motel or
hostel, or yogi power from stores or mini-marts or whatever (ask them to
plug in your device while you're eating ice cream outside ...). If you
carry a spare battery or two and can charge those up occasionally, all the
better.

I've heard of people using the little units that take batteries and will
charge a device such as a cell phone. I've not used one, and have some
concerns (cost, environment/disposal).
