[pct-l] Stove Cannisters

I searched both gas station minimarts in Independence in Aug 2008. Neither carried the MSR-style 4 or 8 oz canisters. Both had Coleman white gas and the large green Coleman 16.4 oz lantern-size canisters. Chevron also had the Coleman Powermax canisters (now obsolete if I remember correctly).
I left messages for both managers strongly urging them to stock the MSR-style canisters. Shell was much more receptive than Chevron, but that could have just been the clerk's attitude that day.
I was at Muir Trail Ranch in August of this yeay. They have every knid of gas canister you can imagine, plus white gas, alcohol, and even ESBIT TABLETS.

Hey ! Isn't there a PCT friendly gas station/ market in Independence now? Call and see if they don't have the canisters???? The Mobil in Big Pine had Canisters, White Gas (the new smaller red plastic bottles of coleman) and Heet alcohol (yellow bottle). They didn't have a big stock, but enough to think they keep it stocked. That guy does a pretty steady business and works hard.
I know it's a ways up from the regular trailheads, but it is the closest town if you have to bail at Taboose. Big Pine is between Independence and Bishop and also has a post office.
