[pct-l] getting back into states with out a passport

Can I be a fly on the wall when you try to get back into the states without a US
passport.
I'm sure they wont stop you, from getting in eventually,  but you better pack a
breakfast, lunch and dinner, and maybe a sleeping bag, and hand cleaner to get
all the fingerprint ink of your hands. And memorize your family heritage and
your place of residence, addresses, and personal info for the past ten years. 
They may just send you to the consulate, to get a new one in Vancouver.
They like their new rules...........
