Jim
I section hiked the PCT over 4 years solo. I have been using the
SpinnTwinn since 2005. I used it on the PCT from Campo to Lone Pine
in 2005. And from Donner Pass to Cascade Locks in 2006.
I used it on the Australian Alps Walking Track (27 days) in 2008.
Other hikes with my wife I use a Big Agnes SL2. I used the SpinnTwinn
on the CDT this year from Chama to Grand Lake (500 miles) see the GG
web site photo where I camped above the tree line at 10600 ft near
Montezuma Peak.
The SpinnTwinn is remarkable in that it has survived even the
strongest winds and rain. I always pitch it with 4 titanium stakes
per side and two stronger GG stakes at the ends. I did not seam seal
until this year since I was expecting more rain in Colorado (and got
a few storms. I have used the SpinnTwinn on a three day hike with my
24 year old son. Even in rain there was plenty of room under the tarp
for two. When solo I use a very light bivvy bag with mozzie net and a
polychro ground sheet. I use my hiking poles to set up.
Cant recommend it highly enough.
Dont know much about cuban fibre tarp but it certainly is lighter.
best regards
David Booth
