Canada refuses entry to anyone who has a DWI conviction, no matter how
long ago it happened. There are some loop holes. If you pay them a
high fee , you can go in, but then they know for sure about you. From
then on, you are require to prove " rehabilitation" which requires
filling out paperwork and paying a $700 fee to remedy the issue. They
send you a rehab letter that you have to show each time you want to
get in. The re-entry into the US is done on the US side, no Canada is
involved in that.

I just came through there (going north from Snoqualmie) this week and the
detour is not necessary. (unless conditions have changed in the last couple
of days)? There is a small fire just north of the Pete Lake junction, but it
is smoldering and not going anywhere.?
The alternate route IS well posted, but I think it adds?a bunch of elevation
gain/loss?to your trip.
The Lemah Creek Bridge is out, but the water is only about ankle deep and
there are boards across.?
?
The glacial ford below Mt. Daniel, before Deception Pass, is not
treacherous. We crossed at four in the afternoon and the water was just
below my knees (I'm 5'2"). Don't follow the cairns or the logs, but go up
stream to one of the pools to cross. I waded across in bare feet and I'm the
biggest creek crossing weanie there is. My hiking partner helped an older
lady cross in the same spot as well. There is a re-route for this as well
(and the forest service signs make it sound uber dangerous) but it adds 4.5
miles to your trip.
I'll have my photos organized and a trip report up soon...

There is a slight detour (well marked according to USFS) just north of
Spectacle Lake that will not add any mileage to your trip.? Starting
tomorrow, I will be hiking Snoqualmie Pass to Stevens Pass and based on
Ranger information, will be taking the Pete Lake Trail all the way to
Spinola Creek trail to rejoin the PCT northeast of Waptus Lake.? Based on
what I heard, this is a much better way to go right now, NB or SB.

Are you saying they don't serve breakfast at all? Or that breakfast is not
AYCE any longer? Thanks.

The Horror!
After all the drooling over Belgian waffles and the dreamy talk from
southbounders I arrived at Timberline lodge and found out the buffet has
been changed. It is now a lunch buffet that opens at 11 AM.
So if you know a thru hiker hell bent on getting all you can eat breakfast..
tell them to forget it or reschedule their plans. I just ate a poptart this
AM.. Boo Hoo.. Could have been a Belgian Waffle dripping with syrup and
drinking REAL Coffee.
Oh well, I guess I will hike to Canada instead.

I remember reading in a couple of journals where it is, but have forgotten.
I think it is kind of hidden isn't it? I know my son in 2006 couldn't find
it.I thought it might be a good idea to let this years group know ahead of
time so they don't miss it. I realize that those who finish don't need a
register to know they have finished, but it is nice to see who was ahead of
you that made it, or maybe see it again in a post or in person. Thanks ahead
of time.

It is inside of monument 78. The marker lifts off of its base. The
register is tucked inside.

I must apologize for my previous post regarding the breakfast buffet at
Timberline lodge. I was wrong.
The waffles of life still float along the golden waters of fresh squeezed
Orange juice! :-)
Rejoice ye starved thru and section hikers of the PCT!
Anyhow, the chow is still ON.
The staff of the WY' East store had apparently been given the wrong info.
There is now a lunch buffet also. The breakfast buffet was upstairs
according to several fellow thru's that actually took the time to verify it
rather than go off half-cocked the way I did.
I am truly sorry.:-(
If I caused anyone to miss breakfast please send complaints/damages to
SHOOTOUT.
Seriously though, the staff at Timberline is very confused about this issue
so be assured.. The Buffet LIVES!

Hey All!
My wife and I are are planning to start hiking north from Steven's pass to
Manning's this week, and are looking for a ride from Seattle to Steven's
either late the night of Tuesday, August 25th, or, probably more
realistically, the morning of Wednesday the 26th. Anyone know of anything?
Thank you so much!

Hi all,
I'm a thru-hiker going to be spending a couple days in Portland before trail
days. I'm wondering if anyone is heading from Portland out to Cascade Locks
on the 29th who would be willing to give me a ride out to the party/back to
the trail.
Thanks a lot,

If you can't find a ride, Skamania County Transit has three buses a
day from Vancouver, WA to the north end of the Bridge of the Gods.
The schedule is at the link on the bottom of this web page.
