[pct-l] Never, never give up on your dream-Susan Boyle...JMT Reinhold

Rena,
This is by far one of the most inspiring and heart warming posts.
Tell your son I wish him the best of luck on his thru-hike and don't
ever stop doing those day hikes.
Although I agree with you about Donna and hold her in high esteem, I
just kept thinking how slighted you must have felt for
being ignored and not receiving any acknowledgment from those who
responded to Donna's subsequent post.
But, like I said, it's not their fault, they don't mean to be
rude.....it's just the nature of the beast.

Yes, we all have dreams.....my dream the last four years has been to do
a sub-five unsupported JMT.
It has alluded me in 2005 due to a forest fire, in 2006 & 2007 due to
shoulder surgeries and other injuries and in 2008 due
to knee surgery (this old body is starting to fall apart).
I am seriously considering another attempt this year....my wife keeps
saying "don't you dare, you are getting to old for this".
We'll see, but she may be right, at 68 I am probably getting a little
old for this extreme stuff.

But, like Susan Boyle,.......I HAVE A DREAM......and dreams sometimes do
come true.
So I will just keep on dreaming, for who knows, someday, perhaps, that
dream may just come true.

JMT Reinhold
The dreamer

------------------------------------------------------------------------

JMT Reinhold you are truly a gentleman! Thank you for the acknowledgment! I
do understand why people pay attention to Donna when she post because of
all she contributes to the community, and I am grateful for all she does. I
did have two lovely responses to my email address (thank you Rod & Fuzz),
but was surprised that there was not even one comment posted. I have to
admit I did feel a bit invisible (perhaps a tiny bit like Susan Boyle must
have felt for 47 years) and did check many, many times to see if anyone had
looked at the link and felt as I did about never giving up on ones dreams.
Then I had to laugh at myself, because it really wasn’t about me...but the
message! So I was glad that Donna posted it today, because it is such a
sweet story and very inspiring. I am not a thru, just a proud mother of a
son who is passionate about it, and two other amazing sons. My son who is
the thru, is very much about staying out of the lime light and just enjoying
his hike. And I am as addicted to following him and all of you as you all
are about your passion of thru hiking. Four years ago after my husband died,
I moved 15 miles from the south gate to Yosemite so I can enjoy the short
day hikes that my injured body can sustain. And like you Mr. JMT, I love the
Sierras. Once they get you in their spell you never want to leave. So thank
you for taking the time to acknowledge my post. I hope all those who dream
of doing the PCT will be able to live their dream! My son is doing his again
this year, he completed his first one in 2006 (he is very blessed to have a
wonderful wife who believes in him and supports his passion),he also loves
the JMT. And I will be reading all the post and journals for all the info I
can get to help him on his journey. You are all a really amazing and
inspiring group of people who make my day brighter by reading your post.

A very proud mother of a thru hiker.

Rena

Say gang,

Rena was first to post "never, never, give up on your dream" but never
got any response, credit or acknowledgment,...why?
I think she deserves some credit or at least share it with Donna.
Sorry Rena it's the nature of the beast....it can be very cruel.
At least you have my acknowledgment, for what it is worth.
