Into the trunk goes the Eddie Bauer edtion, external frame, Jansport-made pack, fully loaded with 7 days of food including a gallon ziplock bag with homemade trail mix, a nalgene quart bottle filled to the brim, the Camp wood handle?ice axe, a 1.5 pound butane cartridge double burner stove, a 1 pound first aid kit, a wool long sleeve shirt, a nylon rain parka with the sprayed on interior coating, knee high nylon gaitors, nylon rain chaps, glacier goggles, a 1/2" closed cell blue foam pad, a 2.5 pound NF Bigfoot first edition polarguard mummy bag and the Sierra Designs Starflight two person, double wall sub 4 pound tent. The first edition guide book guides us to the border where three lines of barb wire are the only separation between two great countries and an old cattle guard station, left over from the pre-Spanish-American War days sits just a few yards into Mexico.? A handpainted sign by Jerry Smith, a 1976 thruhiker, is the only indication of the southern terminus of this great trail.? On my feet are Red Wing leather boots, 2.5 pounds each!!? On my legs are my old trusty Levis.? A cotton t-shirt (there were no synthetic shirts back then), bandana and the parka keep the light rain from soaking me.

One word . . . SWEET!!!!!??

Greg

The memories NEVER fade!
