Well actually it is probably dire expediency if something catches fire  
in Southern CA.  I know of at least one wildfire on the PCT caused by  
an alcohol stove (in 2004).  The pictures are in the Class of 2004 DVD.

No it was opaque but you could see the level if you held it up to the  
sky.
