Fortunately for me, someone was camped near the tree. The route through the campground at that point was a little confusing. Said camper pointed the way, and I walked by totally unaware that I was walking past such a significant biological wonder.

Switchback replies: Yes, there needs to be a marker there for the tree and also pointing the way for the trail. The PCT is poorly marked through the campground. I had to follow the Mammoth dung piles as they use the PCT in this area. A little crude, but it worked fine.
