[pct-l] How do you distinguish scuzzy "Hiker Trash" from a, grubby "Homeless Bum"?

biggest difference - choice and the opportunity to make that choice
sorry to be a buzz kill but I've got at least 6-12 "homeless bum"s
(mostly kids) living within 200m of my home
Ok so now I'm obligated to lighten things up albeit only somewhat
My dad and I (as a young boy) amongst others here in Texas spent a good
deal of time in the 60s exploring remote areas of NE Mexico in search of
caves for exploration. The locals were perpetually amazed that we would
willingly put ourselves in very uncomfortable conditions to do rather
dangerous things not to mention potentially invoking the wrath of Oztotl
and the devil (many caves carry the name Infierno). I recall how in one
area the locals were standing about watching us trying to keep our gear
dry after another tropical downpour when the oldest came forward to ask
why we spent so much effort to live in conditions they worked so hard to
get out of - crazy gringos indeed.
