As an aside.  I hiked north from Kennedy Meadows in early October 2005 
and flip-floppers heading south to kennedy meadows came through an 
"early season storm" with only a little trepidation in the telling of 
their stories.  I ran into four to eight inches of snow on the north 
side of Forester Pass, melting fast, that was interesting to walk through. 


I would hope that people who head out this time of year are comfortable 
enough to stop, camp, and wait it out.  Some of the most telling 
pictures are of tarps sided with snow, and happy campers in them, or 
taking the picture.  It's all part of the adventure if cool heads prevail...
