...there's a strong cold front coming in Saturday that could drop temp's
into the 20's and low 30's, and bring snow levels down as low as 6500', sez
NOAA at www.NOAA.org <http://www.noaa.org/>. Donner and Echo Summits could
receive 1 to 3" of white stuff. My calculation from moving my curser around
the little map NOAA shows on the screen, is that Donner Summit is about
7500', give or take. For that general area, the rain should turn to snow as
early as 11 A.M. Saturday morning. Strong winds accompany this storm and
there are to be heavy rainy periods that may leave as much as an inch in
some places. This past summer's burned out steep canyon areas will
be vulnerable to mud slides. The rain is wide-spread, reaching from Canada
to below Yosemite, so any SOBOs or those who might be trying to do either
the 100 mile stretch between Sierra City and Chester that was burning
earlier, or the section up north of Etna, should be prepared or hole up for
a day. Sunday is supposed to be partly cloudy and by Monday, it's all over.
