A wi-fi report sounds like a good idea, I will create one soon. If any
2008 hikers have wi-fi information send it to me.

I am not sure I would call Verizon useless, I think many hikers use
them and are happy with them. I had more ATT hikers sending me cell
phone reports so that may be one reason why they look better in the
cell phone reports at http://pctmap.net/cell/index.html

I have been happy with my ATT service. One annoying place for ATT
users is Warner Springs were Verizon works but ATT does not. Other
than there ATT has been as good or better than Verizon in most areas,
but truthfully I am not sure it's a huge difference between them.

I did do some testing with Blackberry's back in 2007 and GSM
Blackberry's (ATT) had much better battery life than CDMA Blackberry's
(Verizon) on a weekend PCT hike. I had read that CDMA phones had poor
battery life in area with fringe cell phone reception and GSM phone's
battery life are not effected as much. Apparently this is true (or was
back in 2007, anyway).

For me ATT was cheaper (I switched from Verizon about 2 years ago) and
Verizon does something to the phones they sell that prevents
non-Verizon programs from using the GPS in the phone and ATT had
better battery life. I have not regretted my move to ATT.
