Not at all, unless you like to spend a lot of time in town. Just keep in
mind that early season snow in the Northern Cascades can cut a hike
short, and plan accordingly. That doesn't mean you have to kill yourself
every day. It just means you need to stay focussed on the eventual goal.
If you start May 5, you will have 5 months to complete the trail. 2660
miles / 150 days = 18 miles per day. Add a zero day once a week and that
makes 20 miles per day for those days you hike. Depending on when the
snow files in the north Cascades, you may be able to add a week or two
to that schedule.
So start May 5, plan for a 5-month hike, don't get too concerned about
falling behind schedule in southern California, and enjoy your hike.
