> Doesn't the California Conservation Corps do work on the trail?

The CCC has a summer program they call "Backcountry". This is a program
coveted by CCC members and getting selected for it is tough.

Every year a handful or so members are selected from each center to spend
several months living in the backcountry doing trail work. The members are
chosen by staff for various reasons, not just desire or the ability to do
hard work. This can be a life changing program and it's a big deal to be
chosen. They work on a plethora of trails including the PCT (in California).
The bonding among these backcountry trail crews is very similar to the
bonding that goes on amongst thru-hikers. It's pretty awesome.

With that said, you'll see all CCC members doing short term trail work or
'spikes' as they call it.

When you're out on the trail, give the CCC folks a big THANKS, they will
appreciate it!
