On my recent trip home from the Grand Canyon i was upset to learn my baggage, read backpack, was not on the bus when i got home to LA. It was 4 days before it just "showed" up. I had already talked to the baggage agent and he said you have to wait 90 days before they will reinburse you but only 200$. Those of us who hike know thats not even the price for a new tent replacement. They when i added all my items in the pack and replacment was well into 2000$ range.
I asked the baggage guy about adding insurance and he did mention well just shipping it on the bus as your luggage still only gives you 200$ you can choose to ship it as a package you can then insure it for a 1000$. He also well it will be on the same bus as you it may be put in  a seperate bin.
I know a few others have lost packs on the busses and wondered what the outcome was. Billy Goat when he got sick on the bus last year and was taken off was without his pack for a few days but it did show up finaly.
Is anyone out here an insurance person who knows if you have home owners insurance will it cover this "lost", i know sometimes car thieft is covered on this policy.
