I got you beat on dirt cheap, can get a wide brim sombrero here in Peru for $2.30, which is what I have used for years, including for the PCT. The only problem is that they are cotton, so soak up rather than shed water. I used a plastic rain cover for cowboy hats, got it at horselovers(z?).com.
 
I agree on Tilleys being too heavy, an English chap left one with me but haven't used it. Not my style either (as anti dirtbag can you get).
