Another way to help get heavily soiled clothes of any material clean -- soak and rinse in cold water a time or two to remove all the easily removed dirt.

Another suggestion when washing hiker stuff..........use a high water level.
It gives the dirty clothes a better chance of getting clean. Otherwise you
are washing your dirty clothes in what ends up thick muddy water. Use liquid
detergent. Granulated detergent sometimes doesn't get all the way out of
your stuff.
