Hi all!
Excuse my bad English, but I'm a German student who care more for
content but form ;)
I'm planning to thruhike the PCT in 2009.
I want to start in April and look how far I get.
Therefore I'm currently going to plan the trip.
Please look over the stuff I'll post now and tell me if I'm wrong or
forgot something.
Thanks for your help!
Official stuff:
I need a visa to stay for 7 months in the USA.
I need a visa to enter Canada via the PCT.
I need a campfire permit for California.
I need the thru-permit from the pcta homepage.
Is that "all"?
Supplies:
I plan to resupply at the stores on the way.
On my trips I usually carry food for 10-14 days.
I think this is enough time to get to the next town.
But as I've never been in the USA I don't know what you can buy
there(fast food country ;)
I usually take noodles dried tomatoes and onions as well as flour, dried
yeast and salami/pepperoni and some brown bread.
On the route I usually collect plants and mushrooms to get something fresh.
So could I get the stuff mentioned above in American shops or are there
replacements/alternatives?
Travel:
Well I'll fly to San Diego and then take a bus ride to Campo.
I think there shouldn't be many difficulties.
The return flight will be done spontaneously.
Maps:
Am I right that the 3 books about southern/northern California and
Oregon/Washington include maps?
Which resolution do they have? Is there a UTM grid?
The data book contains information about the towns?
Because I can't find a specific town book.
Bears:
In which parks do I need a bear-can?
Well I think this is all that comes in my mind in the first place.
If I forgot anything important please write!
cheers
