[pct-l] which backpack??

I have both the Mariposa Plus and the ULA Circuit. For pack weights in the
20+ lb range, the Mariposa is fine, and a pound less weight. As you load it
up to the 40 pound range I find the waist belt is less and less effective
for putting the load on my hips. In the PCT desert sections where we carry
16 to 20 lbs of water the total weight is over 40 lbs, and I find the ULA
Circuit more comfortable. That said, the ULA side pockets are short compared
to the Mariposa. They will hold a full 2 liter soda bottle, or a full 2.5
liter flexible Platypus, but you have to be careful when you bend over, or
the containers can fall out. For us, hiking as a couple, the ULA gives some
reserve if one person has to suddenly carry part of the other's load.
