Can I also add... Please carry a load whistle and a space blanket. You can 
still get lost with a GPS and attracting attention is much easier with a 
whistle.

 A space blanket will serve multiple purposes - It can help keep you warm,  
used as a signalling device, or even part of a solar still. If you are 
feeling particularly creative, it could even double up as a skirt for when 
you need "proper attire" when dining in the Ahwahnee Lodge ;-)
